Celebration

  • Sunday 9 June at 11am, we gathered on The Rye to worship together with one voice and to lift the name of Jesus high over our town.
  • Just over 100 people were involved in making LW24 happen, at one level or another…
    • 18 churches were represented by them.
  • We think between 1000 – 1500 people were present but it’s hard to be certain…

Social Action

Prayer

Using a webapp, Christians across Wycombe showed which streets they had prayed for May to June 2024.

  • At least 72 individuals, from at least 15 different churches, walked and prayed over the roads marked above in the 5 weeks prior to the celebration.
  • 3 central gatherings for prayer and worship were held in the same period, lifting up the churches and ministries across Wycombe, as well as the celebration.

… and that was Love Wycombe 2024!

Love Wycombe, the charity

In January 2022, Love Wycombe became a Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation. With the events previously having been administered and underwritten by local charity, Encounter Trust, it was felt that the time was right for Love Wycombe to become it’s own entity for organisational reasons. Registered Charity No 5191597

With this, the following Statement of Beliefs was established by the current Steering Group, some of the Senior Leaders from various churches in and around Wycombe, the Planning Group for the 2022 event, volunteers also from various churches, and the new Trustees.

We believe the Bible, the inspired word of God, is completely trustworthy, speaking with supreme authority in all matters of belief and practice.

We believe in one God, who exists eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe all people, being created in the image of God, have intrinsic value, but as a result of sin are alienated from God and each other, and therefore in need of reconciliation.

We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary, is fully God and fully human; he demonstrated God’s love for sinners by suffering the penalty of death in their place, rose bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven where he intercedes for his people.

We believe all who repent and trust in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Saviour are, by the grace of God, declared to be right with him, receiving forgiveness and eternal life.

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ will return personally in glory, raise the dead, and judge the world.

We believe all people will rise from the dead, those who are in Christ to enjoy eternal life with God, and those who are lost to suffer eternal separation from him.

We believe in the Holy Spirit who imparts new life to those who believe in Christ; through his indwelling presence and transforming power he gives assurance and equips believers for holy living and effective service.

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, the fellowship of all believers, and is commissioned to make disciples of all nations.

January 2022

As our vision states, we seek to bring Christians in our town together, as one voice, united in the body of Christ.

Love Wycombe, and any other ecumenical effort we may collaborate with or communication about, should adhere to these guidelines:

1. Organised by representatives of three or more Christian churches in High Wycombe involving two or more denominations

2. Open to all Christian churches to participate

3. Fosters unity between the churches in High Wycombe

4. Focused on sharing the love of Jesus rather than promoting an individual church,
denomination or theological position

5. Professionally organised and run

6. Any event must have a constituted lead organisation who is takes overall responsibility for health and safety, finance and insurance.

7. Where an event addresses controversial topics, all opinions must be given a fair hearing, and be moderated by a chairperson ensuring measured and respectful debate

Prayer

Using a webapp, Christians across Wycombe showed which streets they had prayed for April to June 2022.
  • At least 58 individuals, from at least 22 different churches, walked and prayed over the roads marked above in the 6 weeks prior to the celebration.
  • 3 central gatherings for prayer were held in the same period, lifting up the churches and ministries across Wycombe, as well as the social action efforts and celebration..

Social Action

  • More than 12 churches ran or facilitated a way to show God’s love practically and generously to our town.
  • No count of how many people were connected with and served, but based on the number and type of events, a conservative estimate would be 200+ individuals directly, and numbers more indirectly.

Celebration

  • Sunday 12 June at 11am, we gathered on the High Street for the first time. The Market Square area provided a central and visible location, and the existing bunting and flowers provided by High Wycombe BIDco added to the festive feel of worshipping together with one voice.
  • 80 people (at least) were involved in making LW22 happen, at one level or another…
    • 25 churches were represented by these 80 people,
  • We think about 1000 – 1500 people were present but no accurate way of counting
  • We’ve ended up with just over the same amount in the Love Wycombe bank account as we started with, remaining from previous years.
    • 21 churches contributed and sponsorship received from High Wycombe BIDco.
  • Roughly £900 collected by Growing Hope in donations direct from people, as well as contact made with potential volunteers and families who need their support.

Love Wycombe 2020

We were due to meet together again on The Rye on Sunday, 7 June 2020, but this was not possible due to CoronaVirus restrictions.

Instead, there was an online Love Wycombe meeting on Sunday, 28 June 2020.

We were blessed to see many churches use this instead of their own meeting at that time, as a show of unity among the churches in High Wycombe, and for the opportunity to reach a wider than normal church family while building unity, praying together, and celebrating what God is doing through the local churches in our town.

We raised £3890 for a new local initiative transplanting from Azalea.

Love Wycombe 2014

The 2014 Love Wycombe Pentecost celebration was held from 11 am to 12 noon on Sunday 8th June 2014, close to the town centre, in Church Street (using the raised area outside All Saints Church as our stage).

In preparation there was a town centre prayer walk on Saturday 7th June 2014 from 6 am to 9 am, starting at All Saints Church.

We fund raised to support the new High Wycombe Debt Centre, set up in partnership with Christians Against Poverty (CAP).  Over £4500 (plus some gift aid) was collected. You can find out more about the High Wycombe Debt Centre on our Working Together pages.  We were also higlighting Credit Unions.  Click here to find out more about our local credit union.

Love Wycombe 2013

On Pentecost Sunday 19 May 2013 Christians from over 50 local churches gathered to worship with one voice at a celebration called Love Wycombe.   The celebration included hymns, songs, dancing, prayers and information about community projects run by the churches.  Over £4000 was collected for local charities, One Can Trust and Wycombe Youth for Christ.
